Located in the heart of downtown Port Jefferson Station and just across the street from a local transit station this new walk in Medical Center is intended to meet the needs of the community. Incorporated into an existing strip shopping center the Medical Center is housed in a former tile store showroom.
Due to the extreme differences between the new use and the prior use extensive alterations needed to take place to prepare the space for its new use and to bring it up to current building and health department codes. Extensive plumbing work was needed to address code requirements for health care facilities and in order to provide wash sinks in each of the seven new exam rooms an onsite lab, and a new ADA compliant restroom.
The space was organized around a few existing perimeter offices and a demising wall that now separated the clinic spaces from the employee spaces. Existing glazing was maintained in order to capitalize on the amount of daylighting used. The final result is a very clean, up to date and easily accessible medical center that serves its community and those in need.
